The Modwest™ E-commerce Plans include Miva Merchant, a complete, customizeable shopping cart system.

A shopping cart allows you to display your products and accept orders. This software automatically calculates and totals orders for your customers. The shopping cart is completely customizable, and you can accept all kinds of payment methods, including check, money order, and credit cards.

Being able to conduct credit card transactions on your site is something separate from having a shopping cart. Some sites may just want to do credit card transactions and may not need any shopping cart.

To accept credit card payments at all, you'll need a credit card "merchant account". The credit card merchant account is a clearinghouse that directs funds electronically into your bank account. In addition, you'll need a payment gateway, which validates and processes credit card information.

Unless handled by a third party, online transactions should be protected by SSL security and there are two SSL options for your hosting account that you can choose from.
