How can I make Pico my default editor instead of
Vi?
If you already know how to use the pico editor, but not the Vi editor, you can set Pico to be your default editor by editting your .bash_profile and setting the EDITOR environmental variable to pico by getting a shell prompt, then typing:and then adding the following to the end of that file:
then save the file (CNTRL+O, Enter), logout of the shell (CNTRL+D or exit), and then reconnect to get a new shell prompt. Now pico is your default editor and will be invoked when you run the crontab and other commands that spawn an external editting program.
