Do you offer MySQL 5?

Yes, we do. Our newest database server "db1.modwest.com" now offers MySQL 5 for our new and current users.

If you want to create a new MySQL 5 database:

First you must go to OnSite and log in as the administrator.

Once you are there, click on the "Add or Drop Database" link under the "Database" heading.

You will now be presented with the "Create New Database" screen. Under the drop-down menu labeled "Database server" select db1.modwest.com.

Now, enter the name of the new database that you want and click on "Create Database." Upon success, you should receive confirmation that the database has been created.

If you want to migrate your existing database to MySQL 5:

NOTE: There have been many changes from MySQL 4 to MySQL 5, it is your responsibility to ensure that your database is compatible with MySQL 5 before migrating.

For more information about the changes between version 4 and 5, please check out the MySQL documentation. Also, be sure to check out the updated list of 'reserved words' that can cause issues.

In order to migrate your existing database to the new server, you must first 'Add a New Database,' following the instructions above. From there, you need to dump your existing database and import it into your newly created database.

For instructions on how to move your database from one server to another, you can follow our FAQ here.
